A Legacy That Continues to Grow
What began as Braemar Co. has grown into Cove Developments — a company built on decades of experience, trusted relationships, and strong partnerships. Today, our team brings together expertise in land acquisition, development, construction, and community planning. We're all working toward the same goal: creating places people are proud to call home.
Why "Cove"
The name Cove has been part of our family's story for decades.
In the 1980s, Howard and his brother Dave built the Willow Cove Apartments on their father's farm. Years later, Howard partnered with Ellis Ivory to develop Coventry Cove, continuing a tradition of creating quality communities built on strong relationships. Those communities inspired the name Cove Developments.
Today, the name represents more than our history. It reflects our commitment to carrying that legacy forward through the people, partnerships, and communities we continue to build.
Building on a Legacy
Howard Schmidt has spent more than 45 years building homes, developing communities, and creating lasting relationships throughout Utah and Nevada. His experience, reputation, and commitment to doing things the right way became the foundation for what Cove Developments is today.
As the next generation, Garrett founded Cove Developments to build on that foundation and create a company focused on residential land development. While Howard's experience continues to guide many of our projects, Cove has grown into its own company — bringing together the right people, partners, and resources for each opportunity.
Over the years, one thing has remained constant: great communities are built through great relationships. Whether we're working alongside long-time partners or assembling a new team for a unique opportunity, we believe every successful project starts with the right people around the table.
Working together
Today Howard and Garrett run Cove Developments side by side. Howard brings the building experience and the city relationships. Garrett studied marketing before completing the Master of Real Estate Development program at the University of Utah, and he works across the whole process — identifying and acquiring land, entitlements, construction, and the sale of finished lots.
Jordan Taylor runs construction. He has been building homes for more than 15 years, working alongside Howard through Braemar Co., and over the past decade he has played a key role in many of our projects, guiding communities from planning through construction. It's a small team on purpose. When you call, you get one of us.
We also work closely with Brett Lovell of Lovell Development Group, an independent developer who partners with us on many of our projects. Brett has been involved in a wide range of residential developments across Utah and brings years of experience in land acquisition, entitlements, and land development. We value the chance to work together, and we share the same commitment to creating quality neighborhoods while building lasting relationships with landowners and the communities we serve.
